February 20, 2025 Stated Meeting Recap

Thanks to Rev. Scott Andrews and the Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood! Their graciousness, hospitality, and kindness supported Peace River Presbytery at work!  And work we did!! From approving all proposed Amendments to the Constitution, to moving Carson Brown from Inquirer to Candidate, and receiving reports from two Administrative Commissions, Peace River Presbytery engaged in and received reports from Committees and Commissions working diligently for Christ’s Church!

General Presbyter Rev. Melana Scruggs recognized Alesia Sharpe for her 24 years of service to Peace River Presbytery and Ruling Elder Janice Croley provided a wonderful testimony to the five years Melana has served in the General Presbyter role.   Clark Simmons reported on behalf of the Board of Pensions and walked the Commissioners through a number of helpful apps which can be downloaded onto one’s digital device.

The Presbytery received words of caution and celebration from Mision Peniel and Beth-El Farm Worker Ministry.  Peace River Presbytery has been part of Mision Peniel, as Miguel stated, for 18 years. The organization has matured over that time and will become a self-sustaining 501(c)3. Work and service beyond the walls of the buildings in which we worship is part of our witness to the community!

Finally, Rev. Tony Larson, Co-Moderator for the 226th General Assembly, delivered a powerful message in worship about his first Christmas Eve in Springs, Virginia.  His stem winding story of Christmas Carols, hospital visits, and a Christmas Pageant gone awry……with Christmas Eve concluding with a visit from a person named Joseph brought the service to a heightened silence and anticipation of how the tale might end.  The sermon underscored the need to be a church where people are welcomed, nurtured, and nourished.

Serving as Moderator is an Honor!!  Our Presbytery, under the leadership of Melana, Randy, and the various Committees, does and will provide hope, redemption, and the love of Christ with passion and purpose!!  Our next meeting will be on Thursday, May 15 at First Church, Bradenton, FL!
