Connectional Church Discussion

I am excited to be coming to be with Peace River Presbytery this May, and I’m honored to be a presenter! My hope for our time together is that, rather than just speaking to you, we can join together in conversation about the places you serve in your part of God’s world. I’m looking forward to learning about you and your congregations, your community ministries, and your life together as a presbytery.

This meeting’s theme has me wondering about the ways that Peace River Presbytery is the Body of Christ together. Not just individually, but together as congregations in your part of God’s world. How is God calling us to be together, as one Body?

A body, when it’s healthy, works together in relationship. We get things done, help people, worship God, together as a body – we also find community, strength, and support within that body, through Jesus Christ. Our bodies are more than just connected, we’re in relationship, we are interdependent. Being a “Connectional Church” is what makes us Presbyterian. We are connected through the structure of the PC(USA). But to be “Relational” means that we acknowledge that we are connected and dependent upon relationships, TOGETHER the body of Christ. That our relationships with each other are as important to each of us individually as they are to the entire body of Christ.

You will notice a few ‘extra’ questions on your registration form. We’ll use those responses to gather around common missions among churches. What you’re currently doing and what you might be feeling called to do. I hope you will complete those questions and join me for conversation at the gathering. I’m looking forward to being with you, learning from you, and being part of that body together.
