Letter from Burnt Store
The following is a letter from Burnt Store Presbyterian Church to First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, Texas. First Presbyterian was hit hard by the floods this summer. Burnt Store’s response is one example of living out our calling.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
On behalf of the members and friends of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, it is my privilege to enclose a check for $10,000 to support your congregation’s ongoing Flood Relief and Recovery efforts – please feel every freedom to use these funds in accordance with your own discernment for where it is most needed in the work of rebuilding after the flood.
Having ourselves endured the devastation of Hurricane Ian in 2022, we feel deeply the pain and disruption that natural disasters bring. We also know from experience that while the initial outpouring of support is a blessing, the hard work of recovery continues long after the headlines fade, and public attention shifts elsewhere. Please know that we hold you in prayer as you face not only the immediate challenges but also the long months of rebuilding and restoring that lie ahead.
We trust that this gift will serve as a tangible sign of our solidarity with you in Christ. As Paul reminds us, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26). We offer this support as your partners in faith, trusting that God will provide the strength and perseverance you need for each new day.
May the Lord bless your congregation richly, sustain your leaders with wisdom and courage, and surround all who are hurting with His comfort and peace.
With love,
Rev. Jaco Bester
Pastor, Burnt Store Presbyterian Church
